You will receive a certificate of completion of the course after taking the free course, however, it is not an endorsement for the written exam. To receive an endorsement to take the written, you need to complete the Premium Private Pilot Ground School which has more content to help you prepare for the written successfully. When you sign up for the Flight Engineer or First Officer membership, one of the courses you will have access to is the Premium Private Pilot Ground School. When you sign up, you can email email@example.com and we can port over the lessons you have already completed in the free course to the Premium Course. If you have any other questions let us know!
Perhaps a dumb question, but could you clarify for me exactly what the entire process looks like? I’m currently a little over a third done with the FREE private pilot’s training on the website. Upon completion of that course, can I go take a written exam with the FAA? Or do I need to then sign up for the premium course, port the progress, and complete additional prep?
If I’m understanding this right, the certificate of completion is really not worth anything to the FAA since it is not an official “endorsement”, correct? It’s only useful in showing an instructor or local ground school my relative progress? Just trying to understand the road!
